Common Questions
What location is best for first time kayakers?
Generally our Rosario Location is going to be best for most first time/beginner kayakers. This is because it allows for shorter rental times and is more protected than Sucia and Eastsound.
What should I wear?
Generally its best to dress as if you are going on a hike! Make sure to bring sunglasses and avoid wearing cotton. Always dress for the conditions and feel free to bring extra layers as the kayaks have plenty of dry storage
How Far in Advance do I need to book?
If you plan to visit us during the peak summer months (july and august) its recommended to make a reservation in advance.
Do I need a Reservation?
Our Rosario Location accepts walk up reservations but Eastsound, Sucia, and Deliveries all require a booking 24 hours before your chosen departure time. If you’re within that time period, give us a call and we will try our best to make it work for you!
Do I need to submit a float plan?
If you are planning a channel crossing to another island (besides Jones) then yes, please fill out the float plan template below and make sure you are doing all channel crossings at slack tide. Float plans must be submitted a minimum of 3 days before your departure.
CHANNEL CROSSINGS
If you are planning to do a channel crossing to another island, its required that you submit a float plan with your intentions and group information at least 3 days before your departure. The San Juans have strong currents and its critical that all crossings are done at slack tide. Orcas Wild may deny your plan if it is deemed unsafe.
